Changes for the Future

Destiny...
"Fitting" everything into a school day is an issue. We've practiced shorting transition times as much as possible!!! I'm trying to do 90 minutes of guided reading, 30 minutes of read aloud, reader's workshop, shared reading and some independent reading. The district has also given us Literacy by Design to use and some days are just too jam packed!!! We've got about a full day of reading to teach in addition to math, writing, social studies, science, and second step. How do you fit it all in???

How, how, how? Magic. It isn't easy. However, I know my students benefited from this program. At an IEP meeting, an SLC teacher was saying in third grade the students would really be focusing on mental images, but we hadn't done that yet. She was saying it would help our SLC students be able to understand text better. I was so glad I could say our team had already introduce the strategy.
I'm really going to have to look at my schedule next year to make it all fit.

Timing has also been a massive problem for me. Where I struggled was not only fitting in all parts of the workshop lessons, but deciding how much time to focus on each strategy. Some strategies seemed easier for them to catch on to, while others were far more difficult. It was tricky to decide when to move on or to keep with the current strategy.
